[2018.9] Surabaya, Indonesia – Day 1

One more item ticked off my bucket list! Awesome!

Booked the flight ticket earlier in March with my travel buddies this year.

It was not always a quick confirmation on overseas trip since we are a group of 8.

But most of us still give an instant ON except…

Just you know, there is sure some people in the group confirmed FFK in the end ?‍♀️

#pchffk

There were actually a bit chaos before even us approaching the departure gate.

Such as bringing oversize luggage, overweight cabin luggage and getting chop on the flight ticket (WUT?).

Then I learned that the aircrew doesn’t care about the bag on your back (as long as the dimensions fit).

BUT, it’d be a huge problem if any bags carried by your hands exceed 7KG.

I know it’s bcos of safety la but kinda double standard leh ?

Gentle reminder yo

Anyway, there’s nothing much to do on Day 1 as we only arrived Juanda Airport at 14:50 local time.

Juanda Airport is pretty big, nice and clean (if you’ve been to Bandung Airport you’d know why haha).

At the custom clearance we were generally asked 2 questions:

  1. Pergi mana? (Bromo & Ijen la abo?)
  2. Berapa hari? (5D4N lo)

Eh sorry I know Indonesian might be a bit different from Malay but around there la ok.

Then, we are greeted by our driver (Pak Budi) and a male person-in-charge with tiny ponytail wtf lol.

One thing to take note – DO NOT buy sim cards from those waiting outside at the airport.

They charged 99 double or triple the market price one.

If possible, try to get from GraPARI ( telco official store) or pay a bit higher at the convenience store also can.

We actually wanted to get the below package but too bad it was a Saturday and shop closes at 4PM ?

From Telkomsel – like our Maxis

In the end, the driver dropped us somewhere beside the road and buy sim card lol.

It was IDR80,000 I think and only 7.5GB (separated into social, local and what some more).

Before that, we had really nice lunch at this place – Pondok Tempo Doeloe.

The ambience is very pleasant and the diners all look rich.

Although the driver confirmed got commission from this place, but it was good so it’s okay.

How do we know? When we were ready to board the van he said want go toilet.

OK you go you go……

Then, we took a really long ride to Malang, around 3-hour I think.

We reached the home stay at 20:00, damn tiring and hungry at the same time.

Luckily there’s something to eat within the walking distance.

Guess what? We had Malaysian food lol wtf.

I was quite skeptical about it at first, bcos I’m from Malaysia leh.

Turns out the food was quite alright just the drinks are still quite Indonesian style ?

Even an Chinese Indonesian auntie approves this (she thought we are Mainland Chinese lol).

We took a breezy short walk back to the home stay.

The weather was quite chilly at 17C – I don’t mind to walk longer lol.

Then, here comes the bad thing – water heater is not working in the bathroom fml.

I couldn’t stand straight and take my bath cos it was really cold ?

Before snoozing, we watched 47 Meters Down.

I didn’t really pay attention to it but others seemed quite thrilled.

Don’t la make yourself fear of diving right.
